"virus free"

2008-11-19 09:30:53

We need to be careful saying to people that they are "virus free".
This is misleading. Your body cannot "get rid" of the virus. All
viruses encode themselves in your DNA permanently. What your body can
do is attack them with its immune system and render the virus almost
useless, which is great news. But it's misleading for you to be told
or for you to think the virus has vanished from your body. I wish it
worked that way, but it doesn't. For example, if you had chicken pox
as a child, that virus is still in your body to this day. It's just
that it's been dealt with by your immune system and does not cause you
any harm whatsoever at this time. But, in an older adult who may be in
a compromised immune state, the virus can come back in a slightly
different form...as shingles. This is a classic example of how a virus
can appear to be "gone", yet still resurface even decades later. Stay
healthy...all the best!

Hi, my name is Lauri and I just wanted to let you know that I have been HPV free for over 5 years now and my ob-gyn doctor said that yes the body can get rid of it. So I hope this is encouraging news for everyone cause I know how devastating it can be when you find out that you have it. What a great feeling! Congrats Julie!

Thank you, I did go to the dr. today and they said it was just a yeast infection. It's a beautiful thing being a woman. [INLINE] oh well I'm gald that it was just that, it seems like ever since i've been diagnosed with HPV i'm scared to go to the gyno, i'm scared of them coming back and saying that I have something else. I also find now that i have a hang up about sex now too.

I have feelings of guilt now whenever i have sex, it sucks. i hope these emothional hang ups subside. Thank you for your feed back.

take care of yourselves.

Hey Kristi

There's no need to be embarassed asking about problems like itching. We are all going through the same stuff in here dealing with our HPV and sometimes its weird and uncomfortable, but you should never feel embarassed in this room. We aren't here to criticize, just to help and support!!!

The itching is probably the side effect of a mild infection caused by the changes in the cells of your cervix. I would purchase some monistat cream to relieve the vulvar itching. If there is a discharge present or the itching is concerning you make an appointment with your Dr. and they should be able to help you.

I have a question maybe someone can answer, this is embarressing but I have high risk hpv,

and sometimes I get slight itching, it's pretty mild and it's not all the time but none the less I still don't want it, is this just a symptom of the hpv? I've read somewhere that it could be but I'm not sure.

Who makes Condylux? 3M makes Aldara of course, and we all know 3M is
very reputable. I'll need to order it online so I'd like to know who
makes a quality condylux med. Thanks for the replies!

[hpv_support] I just found out

2008-11-18 10:07:07

Nikki

This is how you will go on: you will go through your appointments and get the treatment you need to fix your specific problems, you will do everything the Dr. tells you to do, and you will get the support of a family member or friend whom is close with you. It seems like the end of the world but it is not. You will get better with time and this thing will go away damn it LOL! I am sorry you are stressing, and I am here for you if you need me!

I just found out a couple days ago that I have hpv and I am going
crazy. I don't know what else to do but cry. I don't know if I will
ever be able to be intimate with anyone again and I feel disgusting
and dirty. I am wondering if this feeling will ever go away. I
suppose
it could have been worse news, but this is the worst news I have ever
received. I am wondering how others are coping and living with this.
If anyone has any advise, please send me an email or something.

CONGRATULATIONS JULIE

HI all,
It's been a long while since I last posted. I have now passed my 1
year anniversary of my HPV diagnosis. In August, I got the good news
that I tested HPV-free. I'm dure for another PAP soon and I'm hoping I
come out negative again.
I just wanted to share with everyone that it does get better.
Peace and love to you,
julie

[hpv_support] Telling Someone

2008-11-18 01:04:26

Hey Megan

Whom you decide to tell about this virus is your choice and I admire you for wanting to share this with your parents. I know it is not always easy to tell them things like this but by keeping it to yourself you are creating stress and preventing your parents from being there to support you when you may need them. I personally did not tell anyone besides my husband for a few weeks because I was scared/embarassed/pissed off and did not know what to say. I have now told everyone close to me, and it has helped me get through this so much. I am seriously scared of doctors, and having to go to all those appointments without the support of my close family and friends would have been so hard, I am not sure I could have done it. It is a little embarassing since HPV is a type of STD, but you just have to remind yourself and the others you are telling that is THE MOST COMMON std in the world, and that if you have sex with more than 2 people you are at an 80% risk that you may have
contracted it. I wish you luck, and if you need advice on how to do it I am here for you.

Hey. I was diagnosed with HPV three months ago, and have decided it is time
to tell my parents about it. I just don't know how to start...what do I say?
I mean, I know I want to have all the facts with me. I just don't know how
to begin the conversation. Any suggestions? I am doing it today, in like 4
hours, so any quick responses are appreciated! Thanks in advance!

hey I definately i know the feeling of trying to tell someone. It can be very embrassing and most people dont understand how it effects you mentally and physically. Ive beening seeing someone for a while, and its been a struggle for me to tell them that I have HPV. My best advice to you is just be honest with them. I mean there your parents they should have some understanding. Just reveal what you feel comfortable with telling them. Sorry if I'm not being much of a help, but I definately understand where your coming from. Good luck.
